Volunteer Testimonials

I approached this mission with trepidation. I am sort of a wallflower at times, and have a hard time talking to strangers. But God was there and freed my heart and I found the words. I walked away enriched by the experience. I have never felt so connected to my community and my wonderful neighbors at large.”

“You could see God's work at hand. I saw so many people that day, with so many smiles and so much to give to the Food Drive. The generosity was something you just had to see to believe!
I just wanted to say thank you for this wonderful experience! Please count me in when planning the next food drive. I had a blast, and I just knew that God was watching what was going on that day, and smiling at all the volunteers and all the wonderful, kind generous people who filled all those shopping carts to help feed the homeless.”

“We would meet in the middle periodically to share wonderful stories of people giving. Molly said that one person came back out and gave a lot and said "people helped me once". Another person we talked to said "I got a little extra money this week" and she gave 3 bags of groceries!”

“The experience was an honor and privilege....God has been so good and faithful to me that how can I not give of my time ....I would like to continue to stay involved in any way I can in assisting at the OC Rescue Mission...What a blessing to help others in need and to share with them what an awesome GOD we love and serve.”

One of the most rewarding experiences in which I have participated was the food drive in July. The response was amazing! I served at a store that was in a more rural area of Spartanburg. One would have thought the response would have been minimal. This was a totally incorrect assumption! The folks who came to shop were very gracious and generous. People would enter the store and surprise us by brining BAGS of food not just a couple of items. There were instances where I felt uncomfortable asking someone to contribute as I thought they would probably have a hard time buying extra for someone else. This was a totally incorrect assumption too! These folks gave the most food. One other thing I noticed that day was that every person who bought beer also gave bags of groceries.
I was so blessed to have participated in this event. I already look forward to the next one. I am so blessed in life and this is just one small thing I can do to help make sure that NO PERSON goes hungry tonight.
